The pump uses no electricity, only hydraulic pressure from RO brine to pump permeate to the storage tank. Installation of a permeate pump will improve RO water recovery and reduce RO storage tank fill time, improve membrane performance and increase membrane lifetime, and reduce brine water to drain by up to 80%. An RO system with a permeate pump requires no automatic shut off (ASO) valve, which shuts off water flow when system pressure reaches 60-65% of line pressure. A permeate pump will continue to operate until system pressure is equal to line pressure, increasing system pressure 35-40% (compared to ASO valve) and water delivery to the faucet.
